Role purpose
The role will provide direct supervision of site operatives and subcontractors undertaking HIU replacement and associated works within occupied residential dwellings and communal areas.
The Site Supervisor will ensure works are delivered safely, to programme and in accordance with project quality standards, while maintaining effective coordination with the Site Manager, Resident Liaison teams and commissioning personnel.
Key responsibilities
Site supervision
- Supervise daily site operations across allocated work areas
- Directly oversee HIU installation engineers and associated operatives
- Coordinate daily activities in line with the construction programme
- Ensure operatives work in accordance with approved RAMS and permits
- Monitor installation quality and productivity
- Ensure works are undertaken safely within occupied residential environments
- Maintain site discipline and professional conduct standards
Communications
- Escalate significant risks, delays or incidents to the Site Manager
- Support implementation of recovery plans where required
- Maintain regular communication with the Site Manager regarding:
- Daily progress
- Labour levels
- Resident issues
- Programme risks
- Material shortages
- Quality concerns
- Access issues
Control of Labour
- Coordinate and allocate labour resources across daily work activities
- Monitor operative attendance and productivity
- Ensure adequate labour coverage to achieve installation targets
- Coordinate subcontractor activities and interfaces
- Monitor competency and safe working practices of site personnel
Health & Safety Co-ordination
- Support implementation of all Principal Contractor Health & Safety requirements
- Ensure compliance with:
- CDM Regulations
- Site rules
- RAMS
- Permit systems
- PPE requirements
- Carry out regular site inspections and safety observations
- Identify unsafe acts or conditions and implement corrective actions
- Support incident reporting and investigations
- Ensure safe segregation between residents and construction activities
Toolbox Talks (TBTs)
- Deliver and record toolbox talks and daily briefings
- Reinforce safe systems of work and project-specific risks
- Ensure operatives understand:
- Site hazards
- Resident interface requirements
- Emergency procedures
- Access restrictions
- Quality expectations
- Maintain toolbox talk records and attendance sheets
Team & Logistics Co-ordination
- Co-ordinate daily material and equipment requirements
- Liaise with Site Manager regarding:
- Deliveries
- Waste removal
- Material movements
- Storage arrangements
- Ensure work areas remain organised, safe and accessible
- Co-ordinate operative movements between work areas and dwellings
- Assist with planning around access restrictions and resident appointments
Quality Control (QC)
- Monitor installation workmanship and compliance with specifications
- Verify completion of HIU commissioning information and installation records
- Ensure commissioning sheets and associated documentation are completed accurately
- Identify defects or non-conformances and coordinate corrective actions
- Support testing and commissioning activities
Quality Assurance (QA)
- Carry out routine QA inspections of completed works
- Ensure installations comply with:
- Drawings
- Specifications
- Manufacturer requirements
- Project standards
- Support snagging and close-out activities
- Maintain QA records and inspection documentation
Supervision of HIU Engineers
- Directly supervise HIU installation engineers and associated support operatives
- Coordinate installation sequencing within occupied dwellings
- Monitor installation outputs against daily targets
- Ensure engineers follow:
- Approved installation methods
- Isolation procedures
- Resident protection requirements
- Quality standards
- Support technical problem solving and escalation where required
Resident Interface Support
- Support Resident Liaison roles with access coordination
- Ensure operatives behave professionally within occupied homes
- Assist in resolving resident concerns during works
- Ensure protection measures are implemented within dwellings
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain:
- Daily progress records
- Safety records
- Quality inspection records
- Commissioning documentation
- Toolbox talk records
- Report progress and issues to the Site Manager
- Record delays, access issues and operational constraints
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience supervising M&E or HIU installation works
- Experience working within occupied residential environments
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety requirements
- Ability to coordinate multiple operatives and work fronts
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Experience managing quality and commissioning documentation
